Ticker Tape retired with injury

Ticker Tape, the winner of two Grade 1 races for 3-year-old fillies in 2004, has been retired after suffering a leg injury earlier this year, trainer Jim Cassidy said.

underwent surgery in mid-June to have two screws inserted in a cannon bone. The injury was detected following the mare's seventh-place finish in the Grade 1 Gamely Breeders' Cup Stakes at Hollywood Park May 29.

Owner James Peyton and Cassidy considered putting Ticker Tape back in training later this year, but Peyton asked that she be sent to his Forging Oaks Farm in Kentucky to be bred next year. Ticker Tape, 5, won 8 of 31 starts and $1,452,396. Her best year was 2004, when she won the Grade 1 American Oaks at Hollywood Park and the Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup at Keeneland.

After going winless in seven starts last year, Ticker Tape had one victory in six starts this year, the Tuzla Handicap at Santa Anita.
