Gulfstream Park

Thursday allowance runs through Pletcher duo

Marty McGee|Dec 12, 2016

The ninth race Thursday at Gulfstream Park could serve as Exhibit A as to why the wintertime simulcast signal from the south Florida track is so popular with racing fans everywhere.

An oversubscribed field of 3- and 4-year-old fillies is entered in the $45,000 turf race with a second-level allowance condition, and the variety of contenders is conducive to horseplayers diving right in.

Assuming the 7 1/2-furlong race holds together on grass – and the long-range forecast for the area called for mostly sunny skies and highs in the low 80s for Wednesday and Thursday – there are at least a half-dozen fillies whose form appears good enough to win.

Todd Pletcher, who swept all four Saturday stakes at Gulfstream in another remarkable feat, sends forth the uncoupled duo of Deedeezee and Heavenly View. Both are 3-year-olds by Congrats, and each has registered a Beyer Speed Figure of 80 or better in a recent start.

One other allowance (race 5) is on a card that starts at 12:35 p.m. Eastern. It’s a $43,000, first-level race also carded for turf, at the infrequently run distance of 1 3/16 miles.

Both allowances are part of a Rainbow 6 sequence (races 5-10) that began Wednesday’s action with a $29,216 jackpot rollover.

KEY CONTENDERS

Deedeezee, by Congrats

Last 3 Beyers: 75-80-74

◗ Owned by the Starlight Racing of Jack Wolf and partners, this $250,000 yearling purchase is winless in three starts on grass, but all were solid efforts to suggest she can threaten here.

Heavenly View, by Congrats

Last 3 Beyers: 43-82-80

◗ A maiden winner over the Gulfstream turf in February, her recent form has gone a little south, although three of her last four outings have been in stakes races.

Biamonte, by Afleet Alex

Last 3 Beyers: 84-84-80

◗ A winner of four straight turf races earlier this year while climbing the class ladder for trainer E.T. Broome, she’s one of three fillies in here entered for an optional $62,500 claiming tag.

Gliding By, by Artie Schiller

Last 3 Beyers: 70-79-63

◗ Won an allowance over the Woodbine turf two starts back while making her first start in the care of trainer Josie Carroll.

Teri’s Big Heart, by Scat Daddy

Last 3 Beyers: 76-79-78

◗ Rail-drawn filly came to hand over the summer for owner-trainer Steve Dwoskin and stands to benefit from a November tune-up across town at Gulfstream West.
