Thunders Rocknroll takes Lady Slipper; Sir Sterling wins 10,000 Lakes

Jockey Eduardo Gallardo swept both stakes Saturday night at Canterbury Park, where he guided Thunders Rocknroll to victory in the $50,000 Lady Slipper and Sir Sterling to a sharp score in the $50,000 10,000 Lakes.
Both races were sprints for 3-year-olds and up bred in Minnesota.
Thunders Rocknroll ($3.20) made all the pace in the Lady Slipper for fillies and mares, putting up fractions of 21.92 seconds for the opening quarter and 45.19 for the half-mile. The winner went on to a two-length win over Lover Girl, while covering six furlongs on a fast track in 1:11.45.
Jon Arnett trains the daughter of Maclean's Music for her breeder, Robert Lindgren. Thunders Rocknroll is now 5 for 15 for earnings of $207,599.
Sir Sterling ($33.20) was always prominent through fractions of 21.65 seconds for the opening quarter and 44.15 for the half-mile before covering six furlongs in 1:10.46. He won by a half-length over Doctor Oscar. It was another neck back in third to Thealligatorhunter.
Tony Rengstorf trains Sir Sterling for the horse's breeder, Chad Kuehn. The son of Sam Lord's Castle has now won five races from 14 starts for earnings of $149,801.
