ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Father and son Attards will duke it out Friday at Woodbine when the Tino Attard-trained Pleasure’s Gold meets son Kevin’s charge, Souper Flashy, in the $100,000 Thunder Bay, one of two seven-furlong turf stakes for Ontario-sired 3-year-olds on the card. Pleasure’s Gold closed for second behind the favored Breathing Fire when trying turf for the first time in the five-furlong Georgian Bay Stakes on the inner course here Aug. 12. The Georgian Bay was the opening leg of the Ontario Sired Heritage Series for Ontario-sired 3-year-old fillies, which moved to the dirt at Fort Erie in the Sept. 13 Rondeau Bay Stakes. Pleasure’s Gold rallied outside in the Rondeau Bay to prevail by two lengths over a closing Souper Flashy, earning a career-best 78 Beyer Speed Figure in the six-furlong event. “This horse is good right now,” Tino Attard said. “She’s working really good. I think seven furlongs is better for her.” Rafael Hernandez, the meet’s leading stakes rider, retains the mount on Pleasure’s Gold, a homebred owned by Elizabeth and Gordon Lickrish. :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match and FREE Formulator PPs! She went on to finish fourth behind the improving Sister Seagull in the Bison City Stakes. Kevin Attard said it took some time for her to get rolling most recently in the Rondeau Bay. “The rain started to hit while they were in the paddock,” Attard recalled. “She was cutting back from route racing to a sprint and the early pace got away from her. With the condition of the track and running on the dirt for the first time, it seemed like she struggled a little early and then got her legs underneath her and made a good close to the wire. She just couldn’t get to the winner.” A field of nine fillies was drawn for the Thunder Bay. Lake Superior Stakes Bossy Holiday, Silent Runner, Full Screen, and Giant Teddy are among a good group of seven in the $100,000 Lake Superior for colts and geldings. Bossy Holiday was placed second by disqualification behind Silent Runner in the Lake Huron Stakes on Aug. 12, a five-furlong inner turf dash that was the opening race of the male version of the Ontario Sired Heritage Series. :: Get Daily Racing Form Past Performances – the exclusive home of Beyer Speed Figures Bossy Holiday went on to notch his first stakes in the six-furlong Lake Erie Stakes on the dirt at Fort Erie, while leaving favored Silent Runner back in third. This will be Silent Runner’s first start beyond 6 1/2 furlongs, the distance over which he graduated at 2 on the main course. Full Screen and Giant Teddy ran one-two in the Elgin on Aug. 18, a seven-furlong Tapeta stakes for graduates of Canadian yearling sales. Giant Teddy went on to finish third after setting the pace in an Ontario-sired allowance route for nonwinners of three. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
