Three tracks cancel due to heat

Delaware Park, Colonial Downs in Virginia, and Finger Lakes Race Track in upstate New York canceled their Tuesday live race cards as a result of a heat wave affecting the Eastern seaboard.

The cancellations left little afternoon fare for horseplayers on an already light weekday. Among Eastern tracks on Tuesday, Philadelphia Park in Pennsylvania and Suffolk Downs in Mass-achusetts ran their afternoon cards. On Tuesday afternoon, however, Suffolk announced that its Wednesday card would be canceled because of the heat.

Delaware was scheduled to hold its next racing card on Wednesday, despite forecasts that call for a high of 98 degrees, compared with a high of 101 degrees on Tuesday. Colonial Downs and Finger Lakes do not have live race cards scheduled until Friday.
