Hip 58, a Mineshaft filly, breezes for the Barretts spring 2-year-olds in training sale
Barretts Sales/Cecilia Gustavsson Hip 58, a Mineshaft filly, breezes an eighth of a mile in 10 seconds flat for the Barretts spring 2-year-olds in training sale.

The Barretts spring 2-year-olds in training sale’s under-tack show saw a trio of juveniles breeze an eighth of a mile in 10 seconds flat on Monday to tie for the fastest time at the distance.

The horses were timed over the main track at Del Mar Racetrack in Del Mar, Calif.

► Hip 58, a Mineshaft filly out of the winning Forestry mare Noble Grey, whose three foals to race are all winners. Bred in Kentucky by H & E Ranch, the filly is from the family of Grade 2 winners How About Now, Lovely Lil, and Abraaj, and U.A.E. Group 3 winner Maftool.

Bruno DeBerdt's Excel Bloodstock consigns the filly, as agent. DeBerdt purchased the filly as agent at last year's Keeneland September yearling sale for $85,000.

► Hip 63, a Smiling Tiger colt out of the winning Pleasantly Perfect mare Perfect Feat, whose first foal to race is the stakes winner Spiced Perfection, also by Smiling Tiger. Bred in California by Premier Thoroughbreds, the colt hails from the family of Grade 2 winners Changing Ways and Pays to Dream, and Grade 3 winners Jacorda and Jacorda's Devil.

Havens Bloodstock agency consigns the colt, as agent.

► Hip 167, an Into Mischief colt out of the winning Cape Town mare Cape Discovery, who is the dam of five winners from six foals to race, including Korean stakes winner Fly Top Queen. Bred in Kentucky by Brandywine Farm, the colt is from the family of Grade 2 winners Heart of Joy and Unbridled Energy, as well as Grade 3 winner Inexplicable.

The colt was a $110,000 purchase by Superfine Farms at last year's Keeneland September yearling sale. Wavertree Stables consigns the colt, as agent.

Leading the contingent of quarter-mile workers was Hip 121, a Graydar colt who covered the distance in 21 seconds flat.

The gray or roan colt is out of the winning Exchange Rate mare Witch Princess, whose first foal to race is a winner. Bred in Kentucky by Amy Bayle and Allen Racing, the colt is from the family of Grade 2 winners Tiz Wonderful and Prussian Blue, as well as Grade 1-placed Grand Girlfriend.

Top Line Sales consigns the colt, as agent. He was bought for $10,000 at last year’s Fasig-Tipton Kentucky fall yearling sale.

The Barretts spring sale will take place Wednesday, April 4 at Del Mar, beginning at 2 p.m. Pacific.
