Three New York stallions heading to Uruguay breeding farms

Joe Nevills|Jun 23, 2016

New York-based stallion Midas Touch has been sold to Haras Rapetti in Uruguay, and will be joined for the upcoming Southern Hemisphere breeding season by shuttlers Posse and Trinniberg.

All three stallions reside at Rockridge Stud in Hudson, N.Y. Posse and Trinniberg will return to the farm for the 2017 breeding season, and will remain with their current ownerships.

Midas Touch, a 9-year-old son of Galileo, stood his first season at Rockridge Stud for a fee of $3,500 in 2016 after beginning his stallion career at War Horse Place in Lexington, Ky. His first foals are 2-year-olds of this season.

Bred in Great Britain, Midas Touched raced in four different countries over his four seasons of racing, doing his best work in Ireland with a win in the Group 2 Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial and a runner-up effort in the 2010 Irish Derby. Later that year, he relocated to England, where he finished second in the Group 1 English St. Leger and the Group 2 Great Voltigeur Stakes. The following season saw him in Australia, where he placed in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes and Makybe Diva Stakes.

“The farm [Haras Rapetti] has shown interest in Midas Touch since he came to us and we were hoping to work out a shuttle arrangement,” said Lere Visagie, owner of Rockridge Stud. “Unfortunately, the untimely death of Midas Touch’s owner, Andres Rodriguez, forced the estate to find a buyer for him. He has found a very good home.”

Posse, a perennial leading sire in New York, will shuttle to Haras Rapetti for his second consecutive year. The 16-year-old son of Silver Deputy stood the 2016 Northern Hemisphere season for $5,000.

Posse has sired 10 crops of racing age, led by champion Kodiak Kowboy, Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner Caleb’s Posse, Grade 1 winner Rolling Fog, Grade 2 winner No Advantage, and Grade 3 winners Comedero and Lantana Mob.

Trinniberg, the champion sprinter of 2012, will shuttle to Haras La Concordia y Haras Cuatro Piedras separate from his fellow Rockridge stallions.
The 7-year-old son of Teuflesberg stood for $5,000 in 2016, and his first foals are yearlings. He shuttled to Brazil for the 2014 Southern Hemisphere season, where he bred 138 mares.

The deals to sell Midas Touch and shuttle Posse were brokered by Miguel Ezcurra Bloodstock. Ricardo Colombo brokered the agreement for Trinniberg’s Southern Hemisphere season.
