Three juveniles tie for fastest time at OBS show

Joe Nevills|Mar 10, 2017

The middle session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. March sale of 2-year-olds in training’s three-day under-tack show closed Friday with three juveniles tying for the fastest time at one furlong, stopping the clock in 9 4/5 seconds.

The horses breezed over the Ocala Training Center’s all-weather Safetrack surface.

Here are the three horses to tie for the day’s fastest time at an eighth of a mile.

- Hip 339, a Shackleford colt out of the stakes-winning Shawlkit Won mare Annie's Apple, whose seven winners from nine runners is led by Grade 3-placed K. D.'s Shady Lady, who herself is the dam of Grade 1 winner Lady of Fifty and stakes winners Lady Fifty Two and Forestry Steel. The colt was a $25,000 purchase out of last year’s OBS August yearling sale. King's Equine consigns him, as agent.

- Hip 353, a Mineshaft colt out of the winning Arch mare Aurora Prospect, whose first foal to race is a winner. The extended family includes French champion Caerleon, Grade 1 winners Scan and Vision, Group 2 winner Merce Cunningham, and Grade 3 winner Just Pretending. King's Equine also consigns the colt, as agent, who was purchased for $55,000 at last year’s Keeneland September yearling sale.

- Hip 360, a Congrats filly out of the unraced Dixie Union mare Azalea Belle, who is the dam of two winners from two runners. Farther down the page is Grade 2 winner Westerly Breeze, Grade 3 winner Officer Rocket, and multiple Grade 1-placed Ocean View. McKathan Bros. consigns the filly, as agent for Zayat Stables, who bought her for $250,000 at last year’s Keeneland September sale.

At the end of two sessions, seven horses were tied for the overall fastest single-furlong work, after four reached the mark during Thursday’s opening session. Two of the overall leaders are owned by Zayat Stables.

Friday’s fastest worker at a quarter-mile was Hip 364, a Kantharos filly out of the unraced Cutlass Fax mare Barbarella, who hit the mark in 20 4/5 seconds. Barbarella is the dam of one winner from one runner. The filly is consigned by de Meric Sales, agent, and was bought for $35,000 out of last year’s OBS August sale.

The OBS March breeze show concludes Saturday, beginning at 8 a.m. Eastern. The auction will take place Tuesday and Wednesday, with a 10:30 a.m. start each day.
