Three breeze a furlong in 10 seconds for Keeneland April sale

LEXINGTON, Ky. - A trio of juveniles tied for the fastest furlong work on dirt, the traditional yardstick for 2-year-old in training sales, at the Keeneland April sale's under-tack preview show on Monday.
A filly by Tapit, a colt by Bodemeister, and a colt by Liam's Map each breezed a furlong in 10 seconds on a muddy, sealed track Monday.
The Keeneland April sale is returning this year for the first time since 2014, and the under-tack preview was held on the dark day following the opening weekend of the track's spring meeting, with breezes beginning about an hour after the close of normal morning training hours. This year's Keeneland April sale, a single-session auction set for Tuesday, will also include a horses of racing age section, but only 2-year-olds were showcased on Monday, as older horses remain in their normal training routines.

The Tapit filly is a pricey pinhook prospect who was purchased for $775,000 by Baccari Bloodstock as a weanling at the 2017 Keeneland November breeding stock sale. She is consigned at Keeneland April by Hartley/De Renzo Thoroughbreds, as agent.
The filly, a May foal, is out of the Artie Schiller mare My Conquestadory, winner of the Grade 1 Alcibiades Stakes as a juvenile and third in the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks the following year. That makes this filly a full sister to the winner Bourbon War, who is a Kentucky Derby hopeful after finishing second in the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth Stakes and fourth in the Florida Derby. This is also the family of Grade 1-winning millionaire Kelly Kip.
The Bodemeister colt tied for the fastest furlong is consigned by Ciaran Dunne's Wavertree Stables, as agent. He is out of the stakes-placed Bertrando mare Resident Alien, a full sister to Grade 1-placed stakes winner Shaggy Mane and a half-sister to stakes-placed Which Market. Resident Alien is the dam of six winners from as many starters, including L.A. Coliseum, a full brother to this colt.
The Liam's Map colt, also consigned by Wavertree, is from the first crop of his sire, winner of the 2015 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile. The colt is out of the Greatness mare Jenny's So Great, a Grade 3 winner in Canada. Grade 1 winner Supah Gem appears on the catalog page.
Of the smaller group of horses to work a quarter mile on the dirt, the fastest time belonged to a filly from the first crop of Grade 1-winning juvenile Competitive Edge who worked in 21 1/5 seconds.
The filly, consigned by Kirkwood Stables, as agent, is out of the unraced Bellamy Road mare Lefreakcestchic, whose first foal is a winner. Graded stakes winners Living Vicariously, Serious Spender, Sightseeing, and With Distinction appear on the catalog page.
Juveniles were also given the option to work on Keeneland's turf course, which was officially rated soft. Of the half-dozen to breeze on the surface, the fastest furlong belonged to a Fed Biz filly and the fastest quarter, with an asterisk, belonged to a Declaration of War filly. Both were consigned by Shamrock Stables, as agent.

The Fed Biz filly, who worked in 10 3/5 seconds, is out of the winning Kafwain mare Cheer for Foxes. The mare is a half-sister to Canadian champion Riding the Rider, and this is the extended family of champion Heavenly Cause.
The Declaration of War filly went her quarter mile in 22 2/5 seconds while erroneously breaking off inside of the dogs set up to keep juveniles working toward the outer rail of the turf course. As a result, her time was significantly faster than the other horse to work at the distance.
The filly is out of the Arch mare Arch Almighty, a half-sister to multiple graded stakes winner Balance the Books. It is the family of European champion Kooyonga.
