Three Bar Cartel repeats in Dash for Cash Futurity

Three Bar Cartel gave his connections their second straight win in the Dash For Cash Futurity on Saturday night at Lone Star Park, where he held for a head win over Apollitcal to Know in the Grade 2, $353,700 race for Quarter Horses.

It was a nose back to Cloud Ridge in third, while fastest qualifier Ja Am I Blue was scratched from the Dash For Cash.

The 400-yard race was one of two major stakes on the card. Paint My Pilot was a neck winner of the Grade 3, $213,200 Dash For Cash Derby.

Three Bar Cartel ($10.60) was the second consecutive Dash For Cash winner for his owner, Ruben Montemayor, his rider, Damien Martinez, and his sire, Capo de Capi. The team won last year’s race with Eye N Capo, according to Lone Star.

Three Bar Cartel is trained by Josue Ponce. He led throughout while covering the distance on a fast track in 19.82 seconds. For the effort, Three Bar Cartel earned $141,480. He is now 2 for 2 in his career, having won his debut in his trial for the Dash For Cash on Sept. 16 at Lone Star.

Paint My Pilot ($7) won the 440-yard Dash For Cash Derby in 21.63 seconds. Yordanis Amaro was aboard for Double A Ranch and trainer Jorge Gonzalez. Paint My Pilot, who was second in last year’s Rainbow Futurity at Ruidoso Downs, earned $85,280.
