Three allowance races highlight Sunday card
HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – There will be three allowance races decided here on Sunday, two over the synthetic surface and the third, restricted to Florida-breds, on the main track.
A field of seven fillies and mares will go 5 1/2 furlongs over the Tapeta strip in the afternoon’s second event. The group is led by the 7-year-old Awsum Roar, whose 11 wins nearly equals the total number of victories, 13, of the rest of the field combined. Awsum Roar is coming off a third-place finish behind Choose Joy – the queen of the local filly-and-mare turf/synthetic sprint division – in an overnight stakes over the all-weather track two weeks ago. Awsum Roar prompted the pace throughout despite stumbling at the start.
Awsum Roar figures to receive her stiffest challenges from Palomita, who has finished first or second in 7 of 11 lifetime starts, Nikee Kan, and India Pilaga, who won her only outing nearly two years ago over the turf in her native Argentina.
Two-year-old fillies will be in the spotlight going about one mile and 70 yards on the Tapeta in race 7. Off an easy maiden win, Ocean Safari is likely to be favored over the trio of She Nasty, Del Rey Dolly, and Candymeister, who finished first, second, and third in a six-furlong starter allowance dash on the main track here 17 days earlier.
Tiz Possible Dear and Papa’s Little Girl, who checked home first and second under similar conditions on Sept. 19, top a group of seven Florida-breds entered to vie at one mile in the eighth race.
