SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Thorpedo Anna, the reigning Horse of the Year, had her second work at Saratoga since arriving here last month – only this time she got a little more serious. Working five furlongs Monday in 1:01.28 over the Oklahoma training track, Thorpedo Anna went in company with the New York-bred filly Midnight Concerto. The work was done in a bit of fog, and she got her last quarter in 25 seconds. “I thought it was excellent. She could have outworked her, but we kept them together,” trainer Kenny McPeek said. “We didn’t want to knock the confidence out of Midnight Concerto.” McPeek is pointing Thorpedo Anna to the Grade 1 Personal Ensign here on Aug. 23. He said he has time to get two more workouts into her if the weather cooperates. “As long as we don’t get any bad racetracks that make me move the schedule, I’m right on schedule with a small window to adjust,” said McPeek, who added he would likely work Thorpedo Anna again on Sunday. :: Bet Smarter at Saratoga.
