HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Thorpedo Anna, the reigning Horse of the Year, remains on schedule to make her 4-year-old debut in the Grade 2, $400,000 Azeri on March 8 at Oaklawn, trainer Kenny McPeek said. She has been prepping for the 1 1/16-mile stakes at Fair Grounds. “She’s got one more work here and then she’ll come up,” McPeek said Thursday. Brian Hernandez Jr. has the mount on Thorpedo Anna, who is coming off a win in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff. Last year, Thorpedo Anna launched her 3-year-old season at Oaklawn with a win in the Fantasy. She also prepped for that race at Fair Grounds. :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match + FREE All Access PPs! Join DRF Bets. She was second by a neck in the Grade 3 Houston Ladies Classic in her most recent out Jan. 25. “I have Tarifa nominated as well,” Cox said of the Azeri. “I think she goes to the Beholder Mile.” The Grade 1 Beholder Mile is set for March 8 at Santa Anita. Entries for the Azeri will be taken on Sunday. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
