Kentucky Oaks winner Thorpedo Anna and Kentucky Derby runner-up Sierra Leone were among the big names who returned to the work tab over the weekend in Saratoga.
Thorpedo Anna, the top 3-year-old filly in the country, on Saturday worked a half-mile in 49.25 seconds, her first breeze since winning the Grade 1 Acorn by 5 1/2 lengths on June 7 at Saratoga. Thorpedo Anna is targeting the Grade 1, $500,000 Coaching Club American Oaks on July 20 at Saratoga.
“Just a little maintenance breeze for her, what we call a happy half-mile, pretty basic stuff,” trainer Kenny McPeek said.
McPeek said that Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan, who also is in Saratoga, has “had some paddock turn out” and will probably go back in training next week. He is going to train up to the Grade 1, $1.25 million Travers Stakes on Aug. 24.
Sierra Leone, the Kentucky Derby runner-up and Belmont Stakes third-place finisher, was credited with a half-mile work in 49.66 over the Oklahoma training track on Sunday. He did gallop out six furlongs in 1:16.50.
Trainer Chad Brown has not yet decided whether to run him in the Jim Dandy or train up to the Travers.
