Thistledown: Eyes Super Freaky best in Cleveland Gold Cup

Tim Scaravilli|Jul 06, 2012

NORTH RANDALL, Ohio - Eyes Super Freaky overcame being squeezed between horses the opening eighth of a mile, settled along the rail behind the leaders into the second turn, was taken out three wide to circle the top two, and then drew off under Luis A. Gonzalez to win as much the best in the 45th running of the $75,000, 1 1/8-mile Daniel Stearns Cleveland Gold Cup.

It was 5 1/2 lengths back to License to Baling, who finished second, 2 3/4 lengths ahead of Uncle Virgil.

Owned by Randall H. Blevins and trained by Gary M. King, Eyes Super Freaky got the nine furlongs in 1:52.08 over the fast track, kicking off the biggest weakened of racing at Thistledown in 2012 highlighted by the 78th running of the Grade 3, 100,000 Ohio Derby and the Cleveland Kindergarten Stakes to be run on Saturday.
