Thistledown: Caviar N Champagne seeks fourth straight win

John McDulin|Sep 20, 2013

Caviar N Champagne will try to make it four in a row against statebred company at Thistledown on Sunday in the $50,000 Scarlet and Gray.

A 4-year-old filly, Caviar N Champagne won the Mike Mackey Memorial on June 8 going six furlongs. In her next out June 30, she won the J.W. Petro Memorial going 1 1/16 miles. In her most recent outing Sept. 1, Caviar N Champagne won the DeBartolo Memorial, also going 1 1/16 miles.

Trained by Jeff Radosevich, Caviar N Champagne is the highweight in the field of six and will carry 124 pounds while spotting her rivals from 2 to 4 pounds. Regular rider Scott Spieth has the mount.

Trainer Tim Hamm sends out a pair of runners in the six-horse field, but they will not be coupled. Under Ohio Racing Commission rules, management can request to uncouple entries for betting purposes if a small number of horses are nominated to a race.

Startin Something, trained by Hamm, has been beaten by Caviar N Champagne three times this season. She did win the T.F. Classen Memorial at Thistledown on May 3. The 5-year-old has finished in the money in 5 of her 6 starts this season.

Hamm also sends out Blazing Bling. Although winless in six attempts this season, Blazing Bling turns back in distance to six furlongs and comes into the race off a two-month freshening. In her last start July 28, she finished third in the 1 1/8-mile Queen City Oaks at Beulah Park.
