Thirteen Arrows targets Great Lady M Stakes

ARCADIA, Calif. – Thirteen Arrows, a two-time stakes winner who recently joined trainer Jerry Hollendorfer’s Southern California stable, will have her first start on the West Coast in the $200,000 Great Lady M Stakes at Los Alamitos on April 23.
The Grade 2 Great Lady M Stakes is run at 6 1/2 furlongs for fillies and mares and is the top race of the Los Alamitos spring meeting that runs through May 1.
On Saturday at Los Alamitos, Thirteen Arrows worked five furlongs in 1:00.60.
Owned by Rick Porter, Thirteen Arrows was previously trained by Larry Jones. A 5-year-old mare by Indian Charlie, Thirteen Arrows won the Zia Park Distaff Stakes in New Mexico last November and the Pan Zareta Stakes at Fair Grounds last December.
Thirteen Arrows finished second in the Spring Fever Stakes at Oaklawn Park in February, her only start this year. Thirteen Arrows was scratched from the Madison Stakes at Keeneland on April 9 in favor of the Great Lady M Stakes.
Hollendorfer said he plans to have three runners in the Great Lady M, including Minks Aprise and Dr. Fager’s Gal. The leading contender is Fantastic Style, the winner of the Grade 3 Las Flores Stakes at Santa Anita on March 20. Fantastic Style won the 2015 Great Lady M Stakes at Los Alamitos.
• Flamboyant returned to training on the main track at Santa Anita on Saturday for the first time since a fifth-place finish in the $6 million Dubai Turf at Meydan Racecourse in the United Arab Emirates on March 26.
Flamboyant jogged on the main track at Santa Anita, trainer Paddy Gallagher said. A 5-year-old gelding, Flamboyant won two Grade 2 stakes on turf at Santa Anita earlier this year – the $201,500 San Gabriel Stakes at 1 1/8 miles on Jan. 2 and the $201,380 San Marcos Stakes at 1 1/4 miles on Feb. 6.
Owned by David Bienstock and Chuck Winner, Flamboyant has won 5 of 20 starts and earned $698,368.
Gallagher said Flamboyant is likely to remain in California in the coming months. A race such as the $200,000 Charles Whittingham Stakes at 1 1/4 miles on turf at Santa Anita on May 29 is a possible goal, he said.
