Shigeki Kikkawa Theonewewaitiedfor wins the Landaluce Stakes at Santa Anita Park on Saturday.

Freshman sire Creative Cause sired his first stakes winner when the juvenile filly Theonewewaitedfor won the $125,345 Landaluce Stakes at Santa Anita on July 9.

Ridden by Rafael Bejarano, the gray or roan Theonewewaitedfor made or pressed the pace from the start of the 5 1/2-furlong race and drew clear in the stretch to win by 2 3/4 lengths over 7-10 favorite Miss Southern Miss in the final time of 1:03.82. Demigoddess finished third. Theonewewaitedfor was the 3-1 second choice in the six-horse field.

Theonewewaitedfor, out of the Eastern Echo mare Yolo Lady, is a homebred racing for Heinz Steinmann and trained by Mike Harrington. She has won both of her starts, having won her maiden on May 26 at Santa Anita.

Creative Cause, by Giant’s Causeway out of Dream of Summer, by Siberian Summer, stands at Airdrie Stud for a fee of $15,000.

He has had seven runners and two winners, and with progeny earnings of $166,943 he is second on the freshman sires list behind Mission Impazible ($200,920) and Tapizar ($176,878). He has 86 2-year-olds.

On the track, Creative Cause was a consistent runner and one of the best of his crop. He was off the board just once in 10 starts.

At 2, he won the Grade 2 Best Pal at Del Mar and two starts later the Grade 1 Norfolk at Santa Anita. He followed that win with a third-place effort to Hansen and Union Rags in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Churchill Downs.

At 3, Creative Cause won the Grade 2 San Felipe and was second by a nose to I’ll Have Another in the Santa Anita Derby. In the Kentucky Derby, he was fifth, beaten three lengths by I’ll Have Another, before ending his career with a third-place finish in the Preakness.

Creative Cause won 4 of 10 starts and earned $1,039,000.

He’s a full brother to 2016 Tampa Bay Derby winner and Belmont Stakes runner-up Destin.
