Thegirlinthatsong works half-mile toward Santa Maria Stakes start

Thegirlinthatsong, winner of the Grade 2 La Canada Stakes on Jan. 17, worked a half-mile in 49.80 seconds Friday and will start in the $200,000 Santa Maria Stakes against older fillies and mares Feb. 14.
The Grade 2 Santa Maria is run at 1 1/16 miles and is one of two graded stakes during a five-day racing week from Thursday through Feb. 16. The $200,000 Buena Vista Stakes at a mile on turf will be run Feb. 16. There are two $75,000 races on the hillside turf course next weekend – the Sweet Life Stakes for 3-year-old fillies Feb. 14 and the Baffle Stakes for 3-year-olds Feb. 15.
Thegirlinthatsong is trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, who co-owns the filly with Tim and Peter Russo and Daniel Gatto. Thegirlinthatsong, a Texas-bred by My Golden Song, has won 5 of 19 starts and earned $407,695.
