Texas yearling sale set for Aug. 30 at Lone Star
The annual Texas Summer Yearling Sale has been scheduled for Aug. 30 at Lone Star Park, the Dallas-area track and the Texas Thoroughbred Association announced Tuesday.
Officials are looking for the trend of last year’s increased average and entries to continue, as purses have been on the rebound in the state due to a new Texas law setting aside a portion of existing taxes on select equine goods and services for the breeding and racing industry in Texas.
“Last year’s sale showed how strong the Southwest market is with Texas on the rise and Oklahoma and Louisiana continuing to have solid racing and breeding programs,” Tim Boyce, sales director, said in a press release. “We fully expect that upward trend to continue with our upcoming 2-year-olds in training sale followed by this yearling sale.”
The yearling auction will again feature a consignor rebate program introduced in 2020. Entries close June 21.
The next auction in the Texas market is the 2-year-olds in training sale at Lone Star on April 7. The under tack show is set for April 5.
