Texas Thoroughbred Association-Lone Star 2-year-old auction canceled
The annual 2-year-olds in training auction put on by the Texas Thoroughbred Association and Lone Star Park has been canceled, sales director Tim Boyce said Saturday.
The auction was scheduled for April 3 at Lone Star near Dallas. The track on Friday announced it would not allow horses on its backstretch for the April 16 meet until April 3 at the earliest to comply with state-mandated restrictions in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
The decision to cancel the sale was made during a Saturday board meeting of the Texas Thoroughbred Association.
There were 184 horses cataloged to the 2-year-old auction, said Boyce.
“I think we had one of the best sales set for April 3 than we’ve had in Texas for many years,” Boyce said Saturday.
The sale website, ttasales.com, will be converted to a market of sorts, said Boyce. The information on cataloged horses and video footage of some of the individuals – as well as repository records – will be posted to foster commerce between buyers and sellers.

Horses now nominated to the two divisions of the Texas Thoroughbred Futurity this year at Lone Star Park will remain eligible for those races without passing through the sales ring, provided final payments are made, said Boyce. The final payment due date has been extended from April 15 to May 15.
The next sale the Texas Thoroughbred Association and Lone Star are scheduled to conduct is the annual yearling auction Aug. 23 at Lone Star. It will also include horses of racing age.
