Texas sets 2006 race dates

The Texas Racing Commission has granted five tracks a cumulative 305 days of racing for 2006.

Lone Star Park near Dallas will run 66 dates for Thoroughbreds from April 13 through July 23. The track will race five days a week until May 25, with a four-day-a-week schedule the rest of the season. Lone Star was also granted a 32-date meet for Quarter Horses from Oct. 6 to Dec. 2.

Sam Houston Race Park in Houston will run 72 dates for Thoroughbreds, with a 50-night spring session from Jan. 6 through April 9, and a 22-night fall season from Nov. 17 through Dec. 30. Quarter Horses will run 38 days from June 23 to Sept. 9.

Retama Park near San Antonio has added four dates to its Thoroughbred meet, and will run 47 days from Aug. 11 through Oct. 28. Quarter Horses will run 24 dates, from April 28 through June 18.

Manor Downs in Austin will race 18 dates for Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds from Feb. 25 to April 23. Gillespie County Fair will run eight dates of mixed racing, from July 1 through Aug. 27.
