The racing commissions in Texas and New Mexico have set their racing calendars for next year, with Lone Star Park near Dallas to run 60 dates for Thoroughbreds from April 8 to July 18. The track's Quarter Horse meet is set for Sept. 17-Nov. 13. Retama will run 30 dates for Thoroughbreds, from Aug. 27-Nov. 6. The track also was awarded 15 Quarter Horse dates that will be run at Sam Houston in an agreement between the tracks. Sam Houston will add those dates to its own Quarter Horse season to make for a meet that will run 45 days, from May 1 to Aug. 15. Sam Houston was awarded 61 dates for Thoroughbreds next year, racing from Jan. 1 through April 3 in a continuation of a fall meet that is to be begin Nov. 27. The track also will begin the fall portion of its 2010-2011 meet on Nov. 26, 2010, in a season expected to extend to April 2, 2011. In New Mexico, there will be a sixth racetrack operating after a new track in Raton was awarded a 60-date meet for 2010. It will run from May 28 to Sept. 6 and will be a mixed meet for Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses as is the case for all meets in the state. Ruidoso Downs will race during the same 60-date period in 2010. Sunland will run a 77-date meet, which will begin Dec. 11 and run through April 20. SunRay Park will race 46 days, from April 22-July 4. Zia Park will run 53 days, from Sept. 11-Dec. 7. The Downs at Albuquerque will host two meets between Aug. 14 and Nov. 14.
