Texas Mile next spot for Shotgun Kowboy

HOT SPRINGS, Ark.– Shotgun Kowboy, who finished a close fourth to Upstart in the Grade 3, $350,000 Razorback Handicap at Oaklawn on March 19, is being pointed for the Grade 3, $200,000 Texas Mile on May 6 at Lone Star Park, said his breeder, owner, and trainer, C.R. Trout.
Beyond that race, he said, the horse is a candidate for the Grade 3, $200,000 Lone Star Park Handicap on May 30.
Shotgun Kowboy is now based at Lone Star in Texas. Trout had sent Shotgun Kowboy to Louisiana late last year to spend the winter with trainer Bret Calhoun, who started the horse in the Razorback.
Shotgun Kowboy won last year’s Grade 3, $400,000 Oklahoma Derby at Remington Park. Overall, he has won 6 of 11 starts and $608,744.
Trout is now settled in at Lone Star, which opens its meet April 7. He said Bring It On Dude, a multiple stakes winner at Remington Park last season at 2, resumed training in late March.
