Texas Classic Futurity highlights Lone Star meet
Lone Star Park will put on the richest race in Texas during its 26-night Quarter Horse meet that opens Friday – the $1 million Texas Classic Futurity.
“It will be on closing day again this year, as it always is, with the finale on Nov. 12,” said Bart Lang, director of racing for Lone Star. “Trials will be three weeks before, on Oct. 22.”
Lang said purses this meet are projected to average $130,000 per program. He said Lone Star will race on a Thursday-through-Saturday night schedule, after having raced on some Sundays in 2015. First post will be 6:35 p.m. Central.
“We’re looking forward to a good meet,” Lang said. “The first day of entries went really well.”
The stable area includes horses from trainers Trey Wood, Judd Kearl, Toby Keeton, and Jim Helzer.
