Texas Chrome remains undefeated with Gold Rush victory

Texas Chrome remained undefeated in three starts when he closed with determination to catch the favorite Dubdubwatson in the $100,000 Gold Rush Futurity on Sunday at Arapahoe Park. Texas Chrome won by 2 1/2 lengths over that one, while it was another 9 1/2 lengths back in third to Let the Boy Sing.
The Gold Rush shared a program with the $100,000 Arapahoe Park Classic, which was won on the front end by Bourbon Sense. The races helped make for the richest card ever run in Colorado. Purses for the entire program exceeded a total of $500,000.
Texas Chrome ($6.60) shipped to town off a win in the Texas Thoroughbred Association Sales Futurity at Lone Star Park. He sat in fourth in the early stages of the Gold Rush as R Dub and Dubdubwatson went at it through an opening quarter in 22.38 seconds. Dubdubwatson took command of the race through a half-mile in 45.80 and seemed home free in the stretch. But the second choice Texas Chrome kicked into high gear, overtook the leader, and went on to cover six furlongs on a fast track in 1:11.02.
Deshawn Parker rode the winner for Danny Keene and trainer Shea Stuart.
Texas Chrome’s other career win came in a maiden special weight at Lone Star. He now is based at Remington Park. Stuart said down the road, the horse will be considered for races like the Grade 3 Delta Downs Jackpot and the Springboard Mile at Remington. Texas Chrome is a son of Grasshopper, and he was bred in Texas by Craig D. Upham.
Bourbon Sense wires Arapahoe Park Classic
Bourbon Sense ($17.20) took command of the $100,000 Arapahoe Park Classic from the bell as he was up by two lengths through an opening quarter in 23.34. He then continued to lead his rivals through a half-mile in 46.72 and six furlongs in 1:11.55.
In the stretch, Bourbon Sense withstood a bid from Steelman Run to hold for a length victory over that rival. It was another length back in third to Magical Twist. Bourbon Sense covered the 1 1/8 miles for 3-year-olds and up in 1:53.53.
Brian Theriot rode Bourbon Sense for Dale Arnold and trainer Ty Garrett. The horse was winning his first stakes race in the Arapahoe Park Classic. Bourbon Sense is a 4-year-old by Street Sense, and he was bred in Kentucky by J.S. McDonald.

** Arapahoe honored its title winners Sunday and Dennis Collins was the meet’s leading Thoroughbred rider, while Temple Rushton won the Thoroughbred training title. The leading owner was Annette Bishop.
