Texas Chrome, the winner of last year’s Grade 3 Super Derby at Louisiana Downs and the Grade 3 Oklahoma Derby at Remington Park, will be honored as the Texas Thoroughbred Association’s horse of the year during a June 24 banquet, the organization announced. The event will be held at Lone Star Park near Dallas.
Texas Chrome last raced in November, finishing ninth in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile at Santa Anita. Overall, he has won 8 of 14 starts and $842,462. Texas Chrome is a 4-year-old son of Grasshopper. J.R. Caldwell, who trains Texas Chrome, said the horse is scheduled to join his Oaklawn division Feb. 1.
