Terra's Angel points to Trapeze Stakes
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLE
A winner of turf stakes at Del Mar and Retama Park, Terra’s Angel has accomplished a good deal this year at 2 and has one more goal for the season: A stakes win on dirt in December at Remington Park.
Terra’s Angel is being pointed to the $100,000 Trapeze, her co-owner and trainer, Terry Eoff, said Monday. The mile race for 2-year-old fillies closes the Remington meet Dec. 17.
Terra’s Angel won both of her turf stakes at a mile: the Del Mar Juvenile Fillies Turf on Sept. 4 and the $75,000 La Senorita at Retama in her most recent out Oct. 14. As for the move to dirt, she won a maiden special weight on dirt May 13 at Lone Star Park and also ran third in the Grade 2 Sorrento on Aug. 5 at Del Mar.
“We can flip a coin right now,” Eoff said. “I always thought she would be better on dirt, but she’s won two stakes on the turf. I still think she’s a good dirt horse, also. We’ll find out come December.”
Terra’s Angel is by Drosselmeyer, who won the Breeders’ Cup Classic in 2011. Her dam, Vindicated, is by Vindication, winner of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile in 2002.
Terra’s Angel earned a career-high Beyer Speed Figure of 70 for her win in the La Senorita. She stalked the pace and darted clear by 2 1/4 lengths under Sasha Risenhoover, who has the mount back in the Trapeze.
“Sasha said she had plenty of horse left,” Eoff said. “She came back really good, really strong. We’re going to give her a little breather – light training, back off of her, and let her relax a little bit.”
Eoff said that Terra’s Angel, whom he owns with Johnny Evans, will ship next week to Remington. Eoff has divisions at Remington and Retama.
The La Senorita was the first half of a stakes double for Eoff at Retama on Oct. 14. Analyze This Jet won his second straight race in the $75,000 El Joven. The mile turf race was for 2-year-olds and came following the colt’s 6 1/4-length maiden special weight win at Remington.
Eoff said that Analyze This Jet, whom he also owns with Evans, has returned to Remington. The horse is being pointed to Remington’s $100,000 Clever Trevor, a seven-furlong race Nov. 3. It is the local prep for the $400,000 Springboard Mile on Dec. 17.
Eoff said that Lane Luzzi, who has ridden the horse in his last two starts, has the mount on Analyze This Jet in the Clever Trevor.
