Terlani stretches out in closing-day allowance feature
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLE
VANCOUVER, British Columbia – Terlani looks like the one to beat in an allowance race that is featured Sunday, the final day of racing at Hastings this year. The 1 1/16-mile race restricted to fillies and mares who haven’t won a stakes race in 2014 drew six horses and goes as race 7 on an eight-race card that begins at 1:50 p.m. Pacific.
Trained by Frank Barroby, Terlani is the only stakes winner in the field, and she is coming off a hard-fought win over Touching Promise going 6 1/2 furlongs in a $35,000 optional-claiming race Sept. 27. Her gritty performance was flattered when Touching Promise came back to upset the Grade 3, $100,000 Ballerina on Oct. 13.
Terlani shouldn’t mind the move to a middle distance. Her stakes win came going 1 1/16 miles in the $50,000 Vancouver Sun in 2012. She also finished second in the Sun last year.
Terlani dueled through honest fractions on her way to beating Touching Promise by a nose, and she could be the one they have to catch. If not, jockey Frank Fuentes will put her into a stalking position behind Lady At War, who is taking a huge step up in class following a 9 1/2-length romp in a non-winners-of-two, $4,000 claiming race Sept. 13.
KEY CONTENDERS
Terlani (Last 3 Beyers: 71-73-67)

Pretty Reckless (Last 3 Beyers: 62-55-64)
◗ Trained by Mike Anderson, she finished a close third in a $25,000 claiming race going 6 1/2 furlongs Oct. 12 and should appreciate the move to a distance at which she won her only attempt.
◗ With good tactical speed, she figures to get a nice trip from a stalking position with leading rider Amadeo Perez aboard for the first time.

◗ She has had a couple of decent works since she went unplaced in the Oaks.
DRF FORMULATOR FACT: Over the past five years, her trainer, Dave Forster, has won with 26 percent of his starters returning from a layoff of 31 to 60 days.
