Teri's Big Heart owns field's best record on GP course
Teri’s Big Heart appears to have some important variables in her favor in Sunday’s ninth race at Gulfstream Park. She owns the field’s best record over the local turf course, and she could get an ideal tracking trip off such rivals as Grace’s Drama and Imnaha.
The feature is an optional $35,000 claiming race that also carries starter-allowance conditions. It is for fillies and mares at a mile on turf. The race drew a field of seven, including Arthemisa, who is back in the overnight ranks after a stakes start at Gulfstream, and Imnaha, who owns the field’s best last-race Beyer Speed Figure, a 79.
Teri’s Big Heart will break from the rail, one start after she finished fourth at a similar level April 13 at Gulfstream. She has made 15 starts over the local course, with three wins, three runner-up finishes, and as many third-place finishes.
Luca Panici has the mount for owner and trainer Steven Dwoskin.
Nicks trainee to Gallorette?
Ralph Nicks, who sat tied atop the Gulfstream Park trainer standings heading into Friday, could be active on the Preakness Stakes card May 20.
Nicks said Josdesanimaux is being considered for the Grade 3, $150,000 Gallorette. The 1 1/16-mile turf race is for fillies and mares. Josdesanimaux is a multiple stakes winner on grass, and in her most recent start April 1, she was fourth in the Grade 2 Honey Fox at Gulfstream.
Nicks said Josdesanimaux has been shipped to his division at Belmont Park. The mare is owned by Palm Beach Racing.
Juvenile equals track record
Admiral Jimmy equaled the track record for 4 1/2 furlongs Wednesday when he won a maiden special weight in his debut in 51.07 seconds. He shares the mark with Grade 2 winner Awesome Banner.
Admiral Jimmy won by 3 1/2 lengths on a fast track and was favored for Siena Farm and trainer Todd Pletcher. Admiral Jimmy is a son of the Distorted Humor stallion Jimmy Creed, who in 2012 won the Grade 1 Malibu at Santa Anita.
Admiral Jimmy was bred in Kentucky by Siena Farm.
◗ Plans for Mylute, who is closing in on $1 million in career earnings, are to be determined, trainer Nicks said. The horse was third in the $75,000 Jeblar on April 30 at Gulfstream. Mylute, who ran third in the 2013 Preakness, has banked $964,742.
◗ Jason Blewitt, 39, has joined the Gulfstream Park broadcast team as a racing analyst. He was previously with the New York Racing Association.
