Tengo Mis Papeles puts perfect record on line against open company in Prairie Gold Juvenile

Tengo Mis Papeles is unbeaten in two starts, and both of his wins have come in stakes races. He will be looking to add a third Saturday when he moves into open company for the first time in the $100,000 Prairie Gold Juvenile at Prairie Meadows.
The six-furlong race for 2-year-olds shares a card with the $100,000 Prairie Gold Lassie for 2-year-old fillies. The races drew large fields, each luring 11.
Tengo Mis Papeles won back-to-back restricted stakes races this summer at Lone Star Park. His debut came in the $75,000 Staunch Avenger division of the Texas Stallion Stakes on June 13. Tengo Mis Papeles set the pace en route to a 9 3/4-length win. He backed the effort up July 10, with a wire-to-wire victory in the $100,000 colts and geldings division of the Texas Thoroughbred Futurity.
“He’s a very fast horse,” trainer Bret Calhoun said.
Calhoun, who trains Tengo Mis Papeles for Larry Hirsch and Wayne Sanders, said the horse came out of his first two starts so well that the decision was made to test open company in the Prairie Gold Juvenile rather than freshen him and await restricted stakes opportunities this winter in Texas.
Tengo Mis Papeles is a Texas-bred son of My Golden Song, who is by Unbridled’s Song.
“He’s unlike a lot of the My Golden Songs I’ve had in the past,” said Calhoun, who has had a number of stakes winners for the stallion. “Most of the time, they’re better as late 2-year-olds, 3-year-olds, and older horses. This horse was physically matured a little earlier and showed a lot more early speed than some of the others had.”
Calhoun said the hope is that Tengo Mis Papeles will get even better with age, following the trend of his sire’s offspring.
“We’ll see how he lines up with open company,” Calhoun said.
Reylu Gutierrez, who last month won stakes at Lone Star, Finger Lakes, and Pimlico, has the mount from post 3. He’s been the regular rider on Tengo Mis Papeles.
American Sanctuary was an 8 1/2-length maiden special weight winner July 18 at Prairie Meadows. It was his dirt debut after starting his career on the synthetic track at Arlington. Miguel Mena has the mount from post 5 for Dare to Dream Stable and trainer Christopher Davis.
Lane Luzzi will be aboard Feel the Fear, a debut winner at Lone Star Park, in what is his first mount since he sustained a small fracture in his clavicle on July 2.
Eagle Express is the most accomplished member of the Prairie Gold Lassie field as the winner of the $75,000 Pan Zareta division of the Texas Stallion Stakes on June 13 at Lone Star. Kevin Roman has the mount from post 4 for breeder and owner W.S. Farish and trainer Steve Asmussen.
