Tempt Fate named 2021 Arkansas-bred of the year

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Tempt Fate is the Arkansas-bred of the year for 2021, said Deana Echols, the longtime executive secretary of the Arkansas Thoroughbred Breeders and Horsemen’s Association.
She said he will be honored at the organization’s April 15 banquet at the Oaklawn Event Center at Oaklawn Park. Echols said the guest speaker at the banquet will be Michael Blowen of Old Friends Farm.
Tempt Fate completed a perfect meet last year at Oaklawn, winning all four of his local starts, including the Nodouble Stakes over six furlongs and the Arkansas Breeders Championship at 1 1/16 miles. He returned to Oaklawn in December for the current meet and had his number put up in a Dec. 12 allowance in which he finished second by three-quarters of a length. It gave Tempt Fate the distinction of landing in the winner’s circle in five consecutive starts at Oaklawn.
Tempt Fate went 5 for 7 overall last year, for 2021 earnings of $375,480.
Jerry Caroom owns Tempt Fate, who is trained by Carl Deville. The horse is a 5-year-old son of Hamazing Destiny and was bred by the partnership of Butzow and Robertson.
Deville said Tempt Fate has two main objectives this meet at Oaklawn – the $150,000 Nodouble on March 5 and the $200,000 Arkansas Breeders Championship on May 7. Both races are restricted to horses bred in Arkansas.
Tempt Fate is the second Arkansas-bred of the year for Caroom in the last three years. He also raced 2019 winner Hoonani Road. At one point, Hoonani Road won seven straight races at Oaklawn.
