Teleport looks to be class of turf mile feature at Woodbine

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Teleport comes off a respectable showing in the Toronto Cup Stakes and should be favored in Thursday’s Woodbine feature for nonwinners-of-two allowance types and $50,000 claiming 3-year-olds, carded as the second race.
Teleport graduated by disqualification when debuting for trainer Todd Pletcher in August of 2025 at Saratoga, after which he finished seventh and fifth in a pair of turf stakes for 2-year-olds. He was turned over to trainer Kevin Attard this year and was a prominent third off an extended layoff in his local debut in a seven-furlong allowance on Tapeta Aug. 2.
In the fast-paced Toronto Cup Aug. 29, Teleport had a lovely inside stalking trip in third before making a bid to vie for the lead early in the stretch. He flattened out late to finish fourth, 1 1/2 lengths back of victorious Chaos Agent.
With the blinkers removed, a good angle for Attard, Teleport goes from a mile on the inner turf to a one-turn mile on the main course on Thursday. Leading rider Pietro Moran will again ride the beautifully bred Irish import, a Lope de Vega gelding out of a Galileo mare, for the partnership of Mike Repole and Newtown Anner Stud.
The seven-horse field also includes Perfectworks, Pipers Reign, Bright Angel, Extraordinary One, and Adir.
Perfectworks finished second in back-to-back main turf events in the summer of 2025 before graduating on the inner course just over a year ago. His inner turf form this year, however, has been poor. His most recent race was taken off the grass and he was along for second in that Tapeta route at this level while earning a career-high 79 Beyer Speed Figure.
Pietro Moran’s father, David Moran, will ride Perfectworks again for trainer Kelly Callaghan.
Pipers Reign has been campaigned sporadically since closing from left field to land his debut in main turf sprint in July of last year. Coming off a one-year layoff Aug. 30, the 4-year-old made a belated bid along the rail for third behind runaway winner Marshal and favored El Capo. Keveh Nicholls retains the mount on the Chiefswood Stables homebred for trainer Ron Sadler.
Bright Angel is moving up in class off a troubled run against nonwinners-of-two Ontario-sired and $40,000 claimers, during which he was shuffled back to seventh before coming back on late for third on the inner turf. The 4-year-old was previously in spotty form and could be well suited to the roomy course with Jalon Samuel back riding for trainer Joe Russo.
Russo also sends out Extraordinary One, who failed to make an impact in a series of turf sprints at this meet while being unable to crack 70 on the Beyer scale. The European import is questionable on the stretch-out against this caliber of competition with Dane Nelson aboard.
The Mark Casse-trained Adir added Lasix beating Ontario-sired and $40,000 maidens off a 10-month layoff on the inner course Aug. 15. The 3-year-old was beaten a combined total of 60 3/4 lengths in two maiden special weight outings last fall in Kentucky. Rafael Hernandez will ride the longshot again.
