Teide sharp in George Royal score

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Teide dispelled any doubts about his ability to sprint with a convincing 4 1/2-length win over Tommy Danzigger in the $52,054 George Royal at Hastings Saturday.

With Chad Hoverson aboard, Teide stalked the early pace set by Woombroom Express, took control of the race just past the quarter pole, and then was ridden out through the stretch in an impressive performance. The final time of 1:15.20 was just .20 seconds off of Torgue Converter's track record for 6 1/2 furlongs set in 1996.

The morning line favorite at 8-5, Teide paid a generous $7.20 for his emphatic win. His stablemate, Almost Time, finished third as the 7-5 favorite.

The British Columbia horse of the year in 2009, Teide is trained by Dino Condilenios and earned $30,000 for his owners, Swift Thoroughbreds Inc.
