Ted Noffey, the undefeated 2-year-old champion male of 2025, is off the Triple Crown trail after developing bone bruising, his connections announced Thursday afternoon. The horse will be stopped on for 90 days and convalesce at Stonestreet Farm in Ocala, Fla. “I wasn’t happy the way he was moving the last couple of days, sent him for evaluation, and he’s got some bone bruising,” trainer Todd Pletcher said. “We’re going to give him 90 days off and hopefully have him back for Saratoga. “It’s frustrating, disappointing, but we got to do the right thing by the horse,” Pletcher added. Ted Noffey, a son of Into Mischief owned by Spendthrift Farm, won all four of his starts at 2, beginning with a maiden race on Aug. 2 at Saratoga. He followed that up with Grade 1 victories in the Hopeful, also at Saratoga, the Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland, and completed his campaign with a victory in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Del Mar. On Jan. 22, Ted Noffey was officially announced as 2-year-old champion male, receiving 218 out of 220 first-place votes cast. :: Play Gulfstream Park with confidence! Ted Noffey returned to the work tab on Jan. 16 at Palm Beach Downs and breezed twice as he was beginning preparations for the Grade 2, $400,000 Fountain of Youth Stakes on Feb. 28 at Gulfstream Park. Ted Noffey was named in honor of Ned Toffey, Spendthrift Farm’s general manager. His name was posted incorrectly on a social-media post promoting a story about Toffey being named Kentucky farm manager of the year. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
