Technical Analysis reminds Brown of Dayatthespa, targets QE II

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Trainer Chad Brown paid Technical Analysis the ultimate compliment following her impressive victory in Saturday’s Grade 2 Lake Placid when he compared her to Dayatthespa, a horse he trained who earned over $2.2 million and capped her outstanding career with a victory in the 2014 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf.
Now Brown intends to send Technical Analysis down the same road as Dayatthespa and has announced his attention to target the Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II at Keeneland on October 16. Dayatthespa won the Queen Elizabeth II during her 3-year-old campaign.
“Obviously she’s got a long ways to go, but I remember how (Dayatthespa) came around during her 3-year-old season just like this filly has done,” Brown said. “And with her personality and some of the quirky little things she’s had to work through, I see a lot of similarities between the two at this point in their careers. I thought her performance yesterday was her best yet and she’s shown now that if she needs to use her speed, she can take the race to you if necessary.
"Ideally, a race like the QE II would be the next spot. I’d like to try her back at a mile and one eighth now that she has more seasoning and after the race she ran yesterday, she proves she fits in that kind of field.”
The 1 1/16-mile Lake Placid was the fourth win in the last five starts for Technical Analysis and came four weeks after her victory in the Grade 3 Lake George going one mile earlier in the meet. She earned a career-best 92 Beyer for the effort on Saturday.
Although Technical Analysis has been a bit of a late developer, Brown said her improvement was not entirely unexpected.
“We always loved her, she always showed a lot of promise,” said Brown, who moved into a tie with Mike Maker atop the trainer standings after winning three races on Saturday’s card. “She’s had a few interruptions here and there, but she’s certainly done a lot of things right as she’s gotten to the middle of her 3-year-old year, and we’re really proud of her.”
