Tea Time sizzles in work for Test Stakes

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Tea Time, a winner of two listed stakes in the Mid-Atlantic region in the last two months, sizzled a half-mile in 46.67 seconds over Saratoga’s main track Saturday in preparation for next Saturday’s Grade 1 Test Stakes for 3-year-old fillies.
Under exercise rider Clare Byrnes, Tea Time started behind the maiden Skidmore, quickly engaged her a quarter-mile into the work, then glided away from her late.
“A little fast, but she did it really easy. I was very pleased with her,” said Joss Saville, assistant to trainer Michael Matz. “She’s been training great since she’s come up here, couldn’t be happier with her. She’s got such a good mind, and she relaxed. Clare said she just did it easy.”
Tea Time debuted at Saratoga last summer, finishing third to Sweet Whiskey, who won the Grade 3 Old Hat at Gulfstream in the winter and who most recently finished second in the Grade 1 Acorn. Sweet Whiskey is expected to run in the Test as well.
Tea Time is coming off wins in the Jostle at Parx Racing on June 7 and the Beautiful Day at Delaware Park on July 3.
