Taylor's Spirit wins My Trusty Cat; Pacific Pink takes Magnolia

Taylor’s Spirit won the third stakes race of her young career Friday night, rolling to a 6 1/4-length win in the $50,000 My Trusty Cat at Delta Downs.
The race for 2-year-old fillies shared a program with the $100,000 Magnolia, won by Pacific Pink. The stakes were the first of the meet at Delta, which opened Wednesday.
Taylor’s Spirit ($3.20) set fractions of 23.46 seconds for the opening quarter and 47.77 for the half-mile before going on to cover the seven furlongs run around two turns in 1:26.83. The track was listed as fast.
Tommy Pompell was aboard Taylor’s Spirit for trainer Scott Gelner.
Eskendar finished second, while it was another 2 1/4 lengths back to Cover Charge in third.
Taylor’s Spirit started her career July 8 at Prairie Meadows with a 13 3/4-length win in a maiden special weight sprint. She proceeded to win that track’s $65,000 Prairie Gold Lassie before taking the $60,000 Happy Ticket at a mile on turf Sept. 2 at Louisiana Downs.
In the My Trusty Cat, she rebounded from an eighth-place finish in the Grade 2 Pocahontas at Churchill Downs.
Taylor’s Spirit, a daughter of Algorithms, races for Mark Norman and Norman Stables.
Pacific Pink ($5) was up for a three-quarter-length win over Safari Calamari in the Magnolia, for fillies and mares bred in Louisiana. She covered the one-mile distance in 1:39.62. Colby Hernandez was aboard for Keith Plaisance and trainer Eddie Johnston. Pacific Pink, a daughter of Private Vow, has now won 12 of 32 starts.
