Taylor Made Stallions launches statebred initiative for breeders

Nicole Russo|Nov 21, 2025

Taylor Made Stallions has launched a statebred initiative program that will support and incentivize clients who breed an out-of-state mare to a selection of the farm’s Kentucky stallions, all at crucial points in their careers, and return the mares to their respective states to foal.

Under the program, clients may breed approved mares to four stallions at a set stud fee. That fee will be waived once the resulting foal is reported as being born outside of Kentucky and supporting documentation for the appropriate statebred registration is submitted.

“Regional breeders and state programs are vital to the overall health of the Thoroughbred industry, and we understand the importance of those breeders,” Taylor Made’s Travis White said in a press release. “With the foal population and the number of mares bred declining every year, we wanted to offer a unique opportunity to regional breeders in hopes of getting more foals on the ground and providing better access to what we believe are four high-quality stallions who are in various stages of their stallion careers.

“Hopefully, this initiative will bolster the future progress of regional programs, which will impact the industry as a whole.”

The program should attract mare support for the four participating stallions, who are in the stage of their careers when horses often struggle for numbers. Grade 1 winner Angel of Empire is entering his second year at stud; Grade 1 winner Dr. Schivel will be represented by his first yearlings in 2026; and Grade 1 winner Idol, a full brother to champion Nest, will have his first runners next season. Multiple graded stakes winner Tacitus, a full brother to recent Breeders’ Cup Distaff winner Scylla, has his first runners this year. He is the sire of seven winners, including Grade 3-placed Silent Tactic.
