Tax, Performer expected for Discovery Stakes

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Tax, winner of the Grade 2 Jim Dandy, and Performer, winner of all three of his starts this year, head the probables for Saturday’s Grade 3, $200,000 Discovery Stakes for 3-year-olds at Aqueduct.
Tax, trained by Danny Gargan, has not run since finishing seventh in the Travers on Aug. 24. He was scratched from the Oklahoma Derby at Remington Park in late September due to a temperature. He completed his preparations for the Discovery by working a half-mile in 49.80 seconds Saturday over the Belmont Park training track.
Performer, trained by Shug McGaughey, is coming off a second-level allowance win on Sept. 29 at Belmont, in which he beat Grumps Little Tots, also expected for the Discovery. That race was run at 1 1/16 miles.
Performer worked five furlongs in 1:00.20 on Saturday at Belmont.
Others under consideration for the Discovery are Air Attack, Carlos L, Compound It, En Wye Cee, Mubarmaj, and Night Ops.
