Tax among 11 in Remington Derby

Grade 2 Jim Dandy winner Tax has drawn post 5 in a field of 11 for the Grade 3, $400,000 Oklahoma Derby, to be run Sunday at Remington Park. Entries for the 1 1/8-mile race were taken Wednesday.
The Oklahoma Derby is one of eight stakes on the card, which has a special post of 3 p.m. Central. The program includes the Grade 3, $200,000 Remington Park Oaks, which drew a field of four, including Fantasy winner Lady Apple.
The Oklahoma Derby field from the rail with riders is: Drifting West, Luis Quinonez; View Magic, Iram Diego; Bankit, Ricardo Santana Jr.; Sleepy Eyes Todd, David Cabrera; Tax, Kendrick Carmouche; Funny Guy, Rajiv Maragh; Chess Chief, Miguel Mena; Cairo Cat, Richard Eramia; Long Range Toddy, Jon Court; Mucho Gusto, Joe Talamo; and Owendale, Florent Geroux.
A flight carrying runners from New York and Kentucky was due to touch down midday Wednesday in Oklahoma City, Remington stakes coordinator Don Thompson said. A flight from Southern California was to arrive Thursday.
The field for the Oaks from the rail is: Classic Fit, Gold Standard, She’s Shiney, and Lady Apple.
The $150,000 David M. Vance at six furlongs drew a field of six led by Welder. He is coming off a local allowance win for which he earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 100.
◗ Evangeline Downs opens for a 46-night Quarter Horse meet on Friday. The season runs through Dec. 14. The $1 million Louisiana Million is Dec. 7, with trials for the race, the meet’s richest, to be held Nov. 15. First post nightly is 5:35 p.m. Central.
