Tasteyville wires Sport Page 'Cap

Tasteyville, who carved out a fast pace in the Brooklyn Handicap five weeks ago at Belmont, turned back to seven furlongs and cut even faster fractions to win Saturday's 55th running of the Grade 3, $142,500 Sport Page Handicap, leading wire to wire.

Splashing clear from his inside post in 22.29 seconds for the opening quarter-mile, Tasteyville ripped through a second quarter in 22.27 under Mike Luzzi to widen his lead on Council Member and Premium Wine on the turn, and reached midstretch six lengths clear after six furlongs in 1:08.76. Tasteyville's winning margin was 9 1/4 lengths over late-running favorite Sir Greeley. It was 4 1/2 lengths back to Council Member, and another 4 3/4 to Premium Wine.

Tasteyville ($7.20), trained by Pat Kelly, ran the seven furlongs in a swift 1:21.38 over a sloppy main track - the second-fastest of 13 Sport Pages run at the distance behind Mass Media's 1:21.10 in 2004.

Morning-line favorite Chatain was scratched because of the track conditions.
