Taris has minor setback

DEL MAR, Calif. – Taris, the winner of the Grade 1 Humana Distaff for female sprinters at Churchill Downs in May, will not start this summer because of a minor injury.
“She’s got a little bone bruising,” trainer Simon Callaghan said. “It’s minor. We have to realign our sights.”
Callaghan said on Friday that he remains hopeful that Taris can start in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint at Santa Anita on Nov. 5.
“She won’t run here, and she won’t run at Saratoga,” Callaghan said. “We’ll look to Santa Anita and maybe prep for the Breeders’ Cup.”
The injury was detected this week. The 5-year-old Taris will have limited activity for the next month.
“You have to back off,” Callaghan said. “It’s a matter of how she responds to the time off. She’s a filly that is easy to get back on track from a fitness point of view. We’ll be a little patient and do the necessary checks after about 30 days.”
Owned by the Coolmore syndicate of Derrick Smith, Michael Tabor, and Sue Magnier, Taris has won six stakes. Overall, she has won 8 of 13 starts and earned $1,086,260.
Callaghan will have a runner in a Grade 1 race at Del Mar next Saturday when Divina Comedia runs against the champions Beholder and Stellar Wind in the $300,000 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes for fillies and mares. Divina Comedia was third in the Grade 1 Vanity Mile at Santa Anita on June 4 behind Beholder and Stellar Wind.
