Tara's Tango set to return Wednesday in optional claimer
DEL MAR, Calif. – Tara’s Tango, second in three consecutive stakes at Santa Anita through the spring, will be a heavy favorite in Wednesday’s seventh race, an optional claimer for fillies and mares at a mile.
Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer for Stonestreet Stables, Tara’s Tango can win the second race of her career against eight opponents.
Tara’s Tango beat maidens in her only start at 2, a maiden race in July 2014. At Santa Anita earlier this year, she was second in the Santa Paula Stakes and Angels Flight Stakes for 3-year-old fillies and beaten a nose by Stellar Wind in the Grade 2 Summertime Oaks at 1 1/16 miles June 20.
“We want to give her plenty of time between races,” said Dan Ward, Hollendorfer’s assistant.
A winning race Wednesday could lead to a start in the $1 million Cotillion Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at 1 1/16 miles Sept. 19 at Parx Racing, Ward said.
Tara’s Tango’s opponents include Conquest Curlgirl, who was third in the Summertime Oaks.
