Tarabi being considered for Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Don’t scratch Tarabi off your running list for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies just yet. Trainer Cherie DeVaux said Tarabi, runner-up to divisional standout Echo Zulu in the Sept. 5 Spinaway at Saratoga in her last start, is still under consideration for the Nov. 5 race at Del Mar, conceding the schedule is a tight one.
“She came out of the Spinaway with some scrapes that didn’t heal up as quickly as we had hoped,” said DeVaux. “It put us behind schedule, but if everything goes right, we’d like to take her to the Breeders’ Cup. She’ll train straight into it from here.”
Tarabi, by First Samurai, was a 5 1/2-length winner of her Aug. 7 debut at Ellis Park, getting a 79 Beyer, prior to finishing four lengths back of Echo Zulu when getting an 82 Beyer in the Grade 1 Spinaway. She was scheduled to breeze again Saturday in her second work back.

◗ Trainer Chris Davis will be wintering in Florida for the first time when he takes his stable to the Palm Meadows training center in late November. Davis cited the new Tapeta surface at Gulfstream Park as a primary reason for switching from his former Fair Grounds winter base.
Likewise, jockey Sophie Doyle, who currently is riding both at Keeneland and Indiana Grand, will be based at Gulfstream for the first time this winter.
