Tapwrit filly leads Texas breeze-up show with furlong in 9 4/5 seconds
A filly by Tapwrit recorded the fastest furlong at Monday's under-tack preview show for Wednesday's Texas 2-year-olds in training sale, conducted by the Texas Thoroughbred Association.
The filly breezed her furlong, the traditional measuring stick for these sales, in 9 4/5 serconds at Lone Star Park. She easily held the bullet, as seven juveniles tied for the second-fastest time at 10 1/5 seconds.
The bullet-working filly, who is consigned by Pike Racing, as agent, was bred by H. Allen Poindexter in Kentucky. She is out of the winning Henny Hughes mare Sky o’ Blue, dam of two winners from as many starters, including stakes-placed Simmering. That runner is by Anchor Down, who, like Tapwrit, is a son of Tapit.
“It’s not every year in Texas we get a 9 4/5 breeze and she did it the right way,” TTA sales director Foster Bridewell said in a release. “We’re grateful to our consignors and the owners of these athletes for bringing them to Texas to sell, and we’re looking forward to Wednesday’s sale.”
