LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Tappan Street, the Grade 1 Florida Derby winner who suffered a condylar fracture in his right foreleg during a workout Saturday at Churchill Downs, underwent successful surgery on Sunday and the prognosis is good for a return to the races later this year, his connections said. “He should make a full recovery, Dr. [Larry] Bramlage was very optimistic about his chances to return to the races,” said Elliott Walden, president of WinStar Farm, which co-owns the colt. Walden said Tappan Street is at WinStar Farm and will get 60 days off before resuming light training later this summer. Walden said it’s possible that Tappan Street, trained by Brad Cox, could make a start this fall with an eye toward a 4-year-old campaign. Given his success at Gulfstream Park, an early goal for Tappan Street could be the Pegasus World Cup typically run in late January. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
