Tapit's influence growing even deeper

Perennial leading sire Tapit is well on his way to building his lasting legacy – already. The Gainesway stallion’s oldest second-generation progeny, produced by his sons or daughters, are 8, placing him relatively early on the curve in this regard. But he is already the grandsire of champion Monomoy Girl, via his son Tapizar, and has sons Constitution and Tapiture among this year’s top 10 freshman sires. Meanwhile, as a broodmare sire, Tapit is already represented by a classic-placed runner and is eyeing next spring’s classics in a big way.
Silver Prospector and Finite, who earned 10 points toward the Kentucky Derby and Oaks, respectively, with Grade 2 victories Saturday evening at Churchill Downs, are both out of Tapit mares. Kentucky Jockey Club stakes winner Silver Prospector is by Declaration of War and is out of Tapit’s multiple stakes-placed daughter Tap Softly. The Munnings filly Finite, who won the Golden Rod Stakes earlier on the card, is out of the stallion’s multiple stakes-winning daughter Remit.
Finite was bred by and races in the colors of Winchell Thoroughbreds, which also campaigned Tapit and maintains an interest in him as a stallion. Remit, also a Winchell homebred, is the dam of Group 2-placed stakes winner Reride. The mare is a full sister to multiple graded stakes-winning millionaire Tapiture and to stakes winner Retap.
In addition to this pair of graded stakes winners, Tapit also is the broodmare sire of Breeders’ Cup Juvenile runner-up Anneau d’Or among his current juveniles. The Medaglia d’Oro colt is out of Tapit’s Grade 3-winning daughter Walk Close.
Tapit got a classic-placed runner as a broodmare sire last year, when Tenfold, out of Temptress, finished third in the Preakness Stakes to Triple Crown winner Justify and Bravazo. The colt went on to win the Grade 2 Jim Dandy Stakes and this year’s Grade 3 Pimlico Special. Tapit also is the broodmare sire, this year alone, of Japanese 1000 Guineas winner Gran Alegria, Australian Derby winner Qafila, and Venezuelan Group 1 winner Tap Daddy.
