Tapit, Into Mischief each have two for Travers

Three-time leading sire Tapit and current leading sire Into Mischief will each have two chances at the Runhappy Travers Stakes on Saturday – each with one veteran of the classics trail and one newcomer.
Tapit, standing at Gainesway, holds the single-season earnings record for a North American stallion and leads the nation with 10 graded stakes winners this year. Tapit was represented in the classics this season by Tampa Bay Derby and Wood Memorial winner Tacitus. Tacitus comes into the Travers after being elevated to third in the Kentucky Derby, finishing second in the Belmont Stakes, and finishing a troubled second in the Jim Dandy Stakes. Tapit also will be represented in the Travers by Highest Honors, who won the Curlin Stakes at Saratoga.
Spendthrift Farm’s Into Mischief leads the North American general sire list by earnings and winners. Among his most consistent competitors this season is Travers entrant Owendale, who finished third in the Preakness Stakes in between winning the Lexington Stakes and Ohio Derby. Into Mischief’s son Chess Chief comes into the Travers having finished second in the West Virginia Derby.
