Tap the Dot takes Red Earth; Dark Afternoon wins Remington Park Turf Sprint

Tap the Dot and Dark Afternoon successfully defended their titles in separate stakes Friday night at Remington Park, while Run Slewpy Run’s three-year reign in another came to an end at the hands of Doudoudouwanadance.

Tap the Dot accounted for the $50,000 Red Earth for the second year in a row, while Dark Afternoon won his second straight Remington Park Turf Sprint. Doudoudouwanadance kept Run Slewpy Run from winning the $50,000 Bob Barry Memorial for the fourth year in a row with her three-length victory over Catale Winemixer. Run Slewpy Run finished fifth.

The stakes were all run over firm turf, and were all restricted to horses bred in Oklahoma.

Tap the Dot ($9) was up for a head win in the Red Earth, which was run over 7 1/2 furlongs. He closed into fractions of 24.25 seconds for the opening quarter, 49.10 for the half-mile and 1:13.30 for six furlongs before covering the distance in 1:31.56.

Eakly finished second, 1 1/2 lengths in front of third-place finisher Good Swimmer.

Tap the Dot is a son of Moro Tap. Stewart Elliott was aboard for trainer Steve Asmussen. The horse races for Martin Riley and Asmussenequine.com.

Dark Afternoon ($5.60) rallied for a 2 1/4-length win over Breakable Code in the Remington Park Turf Sprint. It was another neck back in third to Twentyone N Change.

Dark Afternoon settled off the pace set by Twentyone N Change, who fittingly ran the opening quarter in 21.28 seconds. Dark Afternoon advanced, moved to the fore in the stretch, and covered five furlongs in 56.77.

David Cabrera was aboard for Black Hawk Stable and trainer Austin Gustafson.

Dark Afternoon is a son of Black Bear.

Doudoudouwanadance ($6) pressed the pace in the Bob Barry Memorial, which was for fillies and mares at 7 1/2 furlongs. She was prominent through an opening quarter in 24.69 seconds, a half-mile in 49.01, and six furlongs in 1:13.27 before going on to win in 1:31.10.

Leandro Goncalves was aboard for trainer Scott Young.

Doudoudouwanadance is a daughter of Magna Graduate who races for Terry Westemeir.
